Why Palmer Swim Method is Different
Every swimmer is different. Every lesson should be too.
No two children learn the same way, so no two Palmer Swim Method lessons are ever the same.
Many private lessons still follow a standardized curriculum. Palmer Swim Method begins with the swimmer instead. Their personality. Thier interests. Their confidence. Their goals. Their learning style.
Rather than following a rigid curriculum, I adapt each lesson in real time, creating an experience that helps swimmers feel safe, curious, challenged, and excited to learn.
Because the greatest progress happens when a swimmer feels understood.
I don't teach children to fit my lessons. I build lessons to fit each child.
💙 Confidence Before Technique
A swimmer who feels safe and confident will learn faster and enjoy the water for years to come.
🧠 Understanding Before Memorization
Swimming isn't just about following directions. It's about understanding how the water works and learning to move with confidence.
👤 One Swimmer. One Lesson.
Every lesson is personalized around the individual swimmer—not a standardized curriculum.
🌊 Curiosity Over Fear
Through exploration, science, and play, swimmers learn to respect and enjoy the water rather than fear it.
📈 Progress at Every Pace
Every swimmer's journey is unique. Lessons move at the pace that best supports long-term confidence and success.
✨ Learning That Lasts
The goal isn't simply learning strokes—it's building lifelong confidence, water safety, and a love for being in the water.
Meet Madison Palmer
Former competitive swimmer and experienced instructor Madison Palmer created Palmer Swim Method to help swimmers build confidence through personalized coaching.
Raised on Martha’s Vineyard and deeply connected to life on the water, Madison brings a unique perspective shaped by ocean experience, boating, freediving, underwater photography, and strong water safety values. She also trained as a cadet at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, reinforcing the discipline, professionalism, and respect for water that define her teaching style.
Rather than relying on a rigid franchise curriculum, Madison uses a personalized method built on trust, confidence, and understanding how the body naturally responds in the water.
Students are guided to feel buoyancy, balance, breath control, and movement first, then learn the science behind each technique so skills are retained both physically and mentally.
This approach has helped swimmers of all ages progress faster, feel safer, and build lasting confidence in the water.
This is the Palmer Swim Method—confidence built through understanding the water.

What Parents Are Saying
“Madison is incredible! She helped our daughter begin swimming in just the first lesson. She learned to blow bubbles, started swimming with confidence for the first time, and began learning how to float. Madison is a kind, patient, and caring instructor who takes pride and passion in making such a difference in children’s lives. Highly recommended!”
“Madison is the combination you need—an experienced and focused instructor with an impressive aquatic background who still makes lessons fun and kid-friendly. Otherwise, you know they're not going to want to go!”

Every swimmer is different, and every lesson should be too.
Rather than following a standardized curriculum, each lesson is thoughtfully designed around the individual swimmer's confidence, goals, learning style, and pace. My goal isn't simply to teach swimming—it's to help every swimmer build lifelong confidence, water safety skills, and a genuine love for the water.
-
Every swimmer learns differently, so every lesson is different.
Rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, I personalize each lesson based on the swimmer's confidence, goals, and progress. This allows lessons to evolve naturally while ensuring every swimmer develops a strong foundation in water safety and swimming skills.
-
Absolutely.
Helping hesitant and fearful swimmers build confidence is one of my favorite parts of teaching. Lessons are always tailored to the individual swimmer, meeting them where they are and helping them progress at a pace that feels safe, encouraging, and enjoyable.
-
Absolutely.
Every child deserves a lesson plan that recognizes and supports the way they learn best.
Because every Palmer Swim Method lesson is individualized, I naturally adapt my teaching style, communication, activities, pacing, and lesson structure to meet each swimmer's unique strengths, interests, needs, and learning style.
Whether a child benefits from predictable routines, visual demonstrations, imaginative play, movement-based learning, or simply a little extra time to build trust, my goal is always the same: to create an environment where every swimmer can grow with confidence.
Some of my most rewarding teaching experiences have been with neurodivergent swimmers. Their creativity, curiosity, and unique ways of seeing the world often inspire me to become an even better instructor.
